God awful food to be eating.......Anyway whenever we order we....lol.
What I actually have to say is living in a student city we are pretty lucky in that there is an abundance of choice. We have now narrowed it down to a regular takeaway for each different type EG Fav Indian, Fav Kebab, Fav Chinese etc. We find a good one and stick with them unless there is issues.
But like you we now boycott the apps as most of the business owners that we have spoken to have said the apps charge more on top of what they actually charge instore as it were. Some of the local vendors have simply stopped using just eat and the rest of them due to this and due to the fact that they also have to pay just eat and the likes a rental fee for equipment and a % of sales they make.....A place like where i am really doesn't need those apps - most now have their own apps to complement their old-fashioned phone number and they have went back to using their own delivery drivers.
You are also right about the price - it makes me feel old lol - I can remember yawning at my parents telling me they could go out get a good drink and something to eat for £1 or so when they were young lol - I feel like them now. But the prices do seem to have exploded in the last few years especially since covid.. I do try to understand like, Minimum wage (Which i support), Gas, Electric, Rent, Rates, Licences, Wages, Tax, and NI - it soon adds up if you are running a proper legit business.
But like you we simply can't have a takeaway meal for 2 for under £20 now no matter what we are having. The result is we have them much less than we used to - probably once a month compared to once a week. We both now like to cook our own take aways lol. We are way down the rabbit hole of buying stuff from the local Thai shop/mini market and making "interesting" stuff. So cheap buying lots of ingredients from there too and just getting the meats from the farm/butchers etc - We started using the farm shop when covid hit and people were boxing for bog roll - We basically sacked the supermarkets off apart from once a month or so for the stuff we can't get elsewhere......We also never run out of bog roll or eggs during the covid years lol. I have to say it has worked well for us though. Don't fin that we spend any more than if we had bought stuff from the supermarket and the stuff we buy is actually better, You can taste the difference. I/we sound like posh/middle class fuckers but we really aren't if it cost loads more we wouldn't be doing it - I think the savings the supermarkets give you they bloody take off you in impulse buys and 60p carrier bags and the like lol.
