Takeaway food a joke

Recommended Posts

Sunday gone the main road was closed near me so me & Mrs Ringers got in the garden, few beers cider till teatime.

We couldn't be arsed cooking so we order a chicken, & chicken and doner from the local.

Now before folk start off "You eating that shit !!" yes and have done for donkeys so we orders, hour later it comes

Fook me !

Fook me in about last night's warm ups, chicken was dryer than Gandhi's flip flop and rock hard. Kebab meat the same, dry, hard, chips like 3" masonry nails and salad going brown.

We rang them up had a rant not much joy bar an apology and discount next time to which I replied there won't be a next time.

Now bare in mind we don't order every week I'd say once twice a month if we're lucky but this is the second one we've had in the past few months that's awful, the first one we just thought was a one off. Anyway after trying to pick at it it went in the bin bar the free garlic bread which was the only thing edible.

But honestly £25 for that ?? joke. It was the missus's idea tbh as I said I'd cook something up but she insisted on ordering in and like I said before, after a few beers you just become lazy n think,  Oh fook it.

One more thing, I won't use Uber eats or any more these apps so the ones we use use their own drivers.

But the standard of takeaway food has plummeted while the cost has shot through the roof but to be served up warm ups on a Sunday that was it for me, I'll make a butty next time before I'll pay for shite like that.

God awful food to be eating.......Anyway whenever we order we....lol.

What I actually have to say is living in a student city we are pretty lucky in that there is an abundance of choice. We have now narrowed it down to a regular takeaway for each different type EG Fav Indian, Fav Kebab, Fav Chinese etc. We find a good one and stick with them unless there is issues.

But like you we now boycott the apps as most of the business owners that we have spoken to have said the apps charge more on top of what they actually charge instore as it were. Some of the local vendors have simply stopped using just eat and the rest of them due to this and due to the fact that they also have to pay just eat and the likes a rental fee for equipment and a % of sales they make.....A place like where i am really doesn't need those apps - most now have their own apps to complement their old-fashioned phone number and they have went back to using their own delivery drivers.

You are also right about the price - it makes me feel old lol - I can remember yawning at my parents telling me they could go out get a good drink and something to eat for £1 or so when they were young lol - I feel like them now. But the prices do seem to have exploded in the last few years especially since covid.. I do try to understand like, Minimum wage (Which i support), Gas, Electric, Rent, Rates, Licences, Wages, Tax, and NI - it soon adds up if you are running a proper legit business.

But like you we simply can't have a takeaway meal for 2 for under £20 now no matter what we are having. The result is we have them much less than we used to - probably once a month compared to once a week. We both now like to cook our own take aways lol. We are way down the rabbit hole of buying stuff from the local Thai shop/mini market and making "interesting" stuff. So cheap buying lots of ingredients from there too and just getting the meats from the farm/butchers etc - We started using the farm  shop when covid hit and people were boxing for bog roll - We basically sacked the supermarkets off apart from once a month or so for the stuff we can't get elsewhere......We also never run out of bog roll or eggs during the covid years lol. I have to say it has worked well for us though. Don't fin that we spend any more than if we had bought stuff from the supermarket and the stuff we buy is actually better, You can taste the difference. I/we sound like posh/middle class fuckers but we really aren't if it cost loads more we wouldn't be doing it - I think the savings the supermarkets give you they bloody take off you in impulse buys and 60p carrier bags and the like lol.

The takeaway in question we've used the same one for years but I'm not sure if it's changed hands or their simply cutting corners warming up but that's the last time.

Honestly, that's as bad as it gets for shite food.

And the thing is we flipped a coin Chinese or kebab. Now the Chinese is in the town centre and I challenge anyone to get a better Chinese for the money plus they use their own driver.

In future it's this and make my own using tongmaster off Amazon it's brilliant

I'm always pretty careful about the times I order food from the local chippy.

To be fare it's a very good one and has won awards but I have had some pretty crap food when I've ordered close to his closing time. Our's closes at nine so If we are going to order it would be between 7.00 and 7.45 and it's pretty much guaranteed to be freshly cooked.

Kebab on a Sunday though? It must be a northern thing 🤣 Maybe that was why it wasn't up to par, just not many people ordering kebabs on a Sunday so not worth keeping the grill on and cutting it fresh.

Annoying though, it just costs too much now for takeaway food, when you were paying half that price which wasn't all that long ago throwing food away wasn't great but at the prices they charge it's now an issue.

Like you I tend to order from places that have their own drivers. I don't mind paying for delivery or tipping. I've used Uber eats a few times and all I get is drivers that speak hardly any English and the last time the cheeky twat couldn't even be bothered to walk down the drive and called me tell me he was there, and I had to walk down the drive and get the food from him. Then he had the cheek to say the word tip as I was walking away, I was so pissed off I couldn't be bothered to tell him to fuck himself, he'd have been unlikely to understand if I did. So I'm done with uber eats and indirectly sponsoring potential terrorists.

My new favourite takeaway is the toby carvery, I didn't even realise you could get a takeaway carvery and it's cheap as well. I have to collect that one though but I don't mind that. I've used them half a dozen times and the food as been bang on and it also stops me making a pig of myself as I would if I actually went there and sat indoors.

I'd also like to point out out though, I'm not just ranting at the bad food as it happens to all of us dished up dog shit food it's the cost.

The price of takeaway through the rising cost for owners makes it super expensive even for the basic food, just a joke.

I think this is why corners are been cut. In our local rag they regular have hit list for worse takeaway hygiene ratings done by Gov. Some on that list are so called some of the best takeaways in and around Wigan.

I just couldn't believe some were given a 1 out of 10. Not so long back about 2 weeks ago we ordered a Indian we had different meals. My wife was seriously ill for 3 days she never got out of bed, I was ok but like I said she had different from me.

I can't think of anytime Ive been ill while making my own cross contamination from knifes and chopping boards been Uno No1. I cannot imagine alot of takeaways giving a flying fook when cutting up salad after using it just before for raw chicken.

Na, I'm done, I don't even trust restaurants, I've been ill in the past, wife's been ill, shit warm ups and the price enoughs enough, time to cook my own from now on even if it's a case of lobbing a pizza in the oven with a few chips when we get pissed

C'mon Goldie you are from Wigan! Some of the best pies in the world can be bought from your area. Can't believe you don't have a few lying around when you get the munchies. For me a few cheese and ham toasties fill the gap, with a bag of crisps🤣 less chance of setting fire to the place. Yep a few pizzas or garlic bread from the freezer will also feed the munchies. Each to their own but as you say, take away food is very expensive piss poor quality and smaller portions these days. You also run the risk of a Defcon 5 sprint to the toilet the next day 💩
