goldringers
Birthday yesterday wife and the daughter tried to persuade me go out for an Indian but me and my son weren't missing football for nothing No not that Champions League shit, we were away at Oxford. So the missus pulls up the local Indian menu and prices up for 4 with a few extras and says right that's £96. I says 90 fookin what?? 6 ????. She says 10% off Tuesday to Thursday if you collect so £86:40. So basically there's nothing off because your fookin collecting. I says not a fookin chance I don't give a flying fook I'm not paying that. And tbh 9 times out of 10 is shit base gravy with sugar and more colourants than a fookin painter & decorators sheet. One chicken dish wife was gonna get £16 (can't think of the name) it's about 6 peices 7 if your lucky rice an extra 4 quid !! Now I'm no tight wad but £96 delivered is absolutely pants down, talc on it and serious hard dry bummed while slapping the back of your neck with your money. When you break it down it's fookin scandalous. Now I know there's a cost of living crisis etc, shop, bills wages but the mark up on that has to be extraordinary. Daughter went Tesco's, bought a few bits rice cooker out hour later done n dusted and it what far far better tasting than that sugar coloured crap they serve anyway. At least the worktops not got yellow stains that don't come out for a month. But seriously nearly a £100 for a takeaway is borderlining on the ridiculous. We stopped using the local kebab shop. We would regular order from there but when they decided to up everything by roughly 30% overnight that put paid to that. Then one night food was cold and the chips tasted like a month's warm ups, our £50 order for 4 went to £65. My local town has recently gone food crazy. We have a huge new market opening soon with food stalls etc, we have a new Feast at the Mill a big old cotton mill conversion costing millions on millions all beer food and now a new Staxx opening. Eating out few pints use to roll off your tongue but now you plan and even that is rare. Like I said it might be me living in the 80's prices but when you go for a pint and a chicken wrap and it's nearly £25 it's basically taking the piss There's a street in my town called King St. It used to be bar after bar bang in the centre of town. Walk down it now it's a ghost town i think there's 2-3 still open. But I just don't get how these places stay open. We talk about crisis money etc but drive down any small town there'll be 3-4-5 eating places so they must be making money Cost of living crisis?, not for them Edited 17 hours ago by goldringers
casper
A lot of takeaways are now sit in prices. I tend to look for places with special offers on now as I am tight bastard 😄 Local one has a buy one main and a side, and get a free main. End up with two mains and two sides for under £20. One set goes in the fridge for the next day.
shanew
Check out Al's kitchen https://www.youtube.com/@AlsKitchen for some really good takeaway recipes, there's also Latif's inspired https://www.youtube.com/@LatifsInspired for some homestyle and takeaway recipes. I make everything now, having started a food business and dealing with the EHO you get to see some of the hovels they have to visit and have no trust in them to put food before profit.
